City Council Adopts Design Guidelines for Mixed Use Commercial District

“This is the most clapping ever had in a City Council meeting.”

On February 21st, 2022 pages 1-40 of the Design Guidelines (focused on the Mixed Use Commercial District) were reviewed and adopted by City Council with a vote of 5-yes, 0-no. The meeting took place at 5:30 pm at City Hall, 4200 Mills Civic Parkway. Council also passed the requested extension of the 6-month demolition moratorium for properties in the Mixed Use District, noting next steps will focus on (1) engaging a historic consultant to review select properties outside the district to determine what buildings could potentially qualify, and (2) seek incentives to encourage rehabilitation and discourage teardowns.

Quotes by the Mayor and City Council included the following:

Special thanks to the steering committee, local residents, businesses, organizations, foundation, staff, commissions, council, and EVERYONE who has been involved in this process to date! Still much work to be done but this is a big step forward.
