And we’re off! The HWDM Master Plan Steering Committee came together on the evening of Wednesday, September 15th, 2021 to join forces and brainwaves. An overview of the project schedule for the master plan update was shared (view it here) alongside anticipated events to connect with and hear from local residents, businesses, organizations, and the HWDM community as a whole. Following this overview and Q+A, the committee engaged in an interactive discussion focused on “The Anatomy of Community Character” — i.e. the look, feel, and function of the commercial and residential districts in Historic West Des Moines. Insights were recorded graphically and summarized via the mind map images below.
“Historic West Des Moines is eclectic, endearing, and inviting — a destination to go and gather, a place to call “home”. Walkable, comfortable, and compact, it has evolved to reflect both diversity and commonality, while celebrating a richness of character that tells our story and reflects our railroad roots.”
